Re: Introductions- we should all make one! Archived Message

My name is Rachel, I'm in my mid-twenties and I live just south of the Twin Cities in Minnesota of the USA. I'm a stage manager, and I live my life surrounded by as much art and theatre as possible!

I've always been enraptured of sparkling objects: as with most Americans, my first introduction to a monarchy and all of its sparkling elements was the British Royal Family. I've also always been very interested in history, and my love of jewels stems from my love and appreciation of history. Most of the pieces owned by the royal families of the world have significant history behind them, and it's fascinating to see how each generation uses these pieces.

I was very pleased to find this very welcoming and incredibly intelligent community--luckily, there are places for addicts such as ourselves I value your knowledge, opinions, and sharp eyes and minds very much, even though few of us have ever met.

: Why not? My name is John and I live in New
: York City. My fascination with royalty
: started when I was very young, watching the
: wedding of The POW and Lady Diana Spencer as
: a 10 year old. Books were my friends in the
: 80's, particularly one called 'There Are
: Still Kings' which featured photos of Queen
: Beatrix in her Investiture robes and a
: beautiful and young Queen Margrethe II in
: full parure and orders. My favorite royal
: jewel topics relate to jewels of the Belgian
: royal family, Danish jewels, jeweled orders
: worn by ladies, and ANYTHING having to do
: with Queen Marie of Romania and her family.
: When I'm not royal jeweling, I work in
: healthcare at a world renowned hospital, and
: enjoy long walks in NYC, theater, cooking
    : and reading.

: I see there is a button to click for

    : Question:
: Does everything go to the archive?
: Or can you filter messages and archive only
    : selected ones?

: As some of you may have noticed, this board
    : is
: now on the 55,000 message plan, so you'll be
: able to search in the archive for older
: posts. So far it will be for six months for
: $142.44 USD (that's the most Boardhost has
: for a package, that or pay $24.49 a month).
: Eventually I will put up a tip jar for
: anyone who wishes to contribute towards
    : expenses.
    :
: When I have the time to do it, I'll be
: tinkering with making this board better.
: People should have the ability to edit or
: remove their own posts, and registered
: members will have added abilities, as soon
: as I figure out what they are.
    :
: On to an introduction! My name is Jan
: (female) and I live in Urbana, Illinois
: (USA). From a previous thread started by
: Nellie, I notice that there are a couple
: people who live one state over from me
    : (Indiana).
    :
: Around 2001 I created one of the first
: website dedicated to royal jewelry. After a
: few great years (including an international
: phone call to an Indian newspaper to
: complain about them using pictures from the
: site and information without giving credit)
: the Tripod site got closed down due to a
: complaint from a person who went around
    : filing complaints about copyright.
    :
: Even though the site got removed, other
: sites sprang up to replace it. This message
: board (and a couple of others, due to a
: board scare) also stayed strong and true.
: We've been fortunate to have great members,
: as well as real live experts in our midst.
    :
: After a big move and a major change in my
: life, I still kept my books on royal jewels.
: I hope to new members, as well as the old
: ones mingling on this board, sharing
    : information and interests.
    :
: Thanks for making 2011 a good year for royal
    : jewelry, and let's hope for a glittery 2012!
