Hello to all I'm Stefan and live in Germany close to Stuttgart. My interest in Royals started when we had a big Wedding nott too far away as Duchess Mathilde of Württemberg married the Hereditary Coutn of Waldburg zu Zeil and Trauchburg. Since then i follow all the european Royals and if possible i go to Royal Weddings if they are not to far away. I usually post some iof my pics on my blog which you can find in my signatur. I also try to visit royal sites and Castles in my Holidays. --Previous Message-- : Baxter, your knowledge led me to believe you : are British. I, too, would love to visit : the diamond exhibit! : : My first memory of royalty, other than the : kings in Shakespeare, is of Queen Juliana : taking the Dutch throne on my birthday. : That was nice but pretty abstract. I really : became interested when Queen Elizabeth II : came to the British throne. My mother and I : had a conversation about her future effect : on the role of women in public life, and it : has been immense indeed! We went to the : theater to watch the coronation film, so : beautiful. (My mother finally bought : television for the wedding of Princess : Grace.) : : I spent a year in England as a student, and : saw Princess Margaret up close, and the : Queen and Prince Phillip on horseback at : Trooping the Color. Princess Margaret, the : Queen Mother, and the children rode in a : carriage. I walked back to Buckingham : Palace to see the royalty on the balcony, : and a nice policeman helped me find a spot : on the steps of the Victoria Memorial where : I could take a clear picture. : : A busy adult life left me little time for my : hobbies. I do remember pictures of the : Kennedys with the Queen and Prince Phillip. : Years later I came across a photo of the : young Swedish King talking with the Queen : Mother. At that point, I realized I had : lost track of European royalty and had : little current knowledge of British royalty, : and I started to read again. When the : Prince of Wales married Lady Diana Spencer, : I rose before dawn to watch. : : My first long ago visit to the Crown Jewels : in the Tower was breath taking. They were : then exhibited in a dark room, glittering : under bright lights. The current daylit : moving exhibit is efficient but not nearly : as dramatic. : : Other crown jewels I have seen in person are : those of Bavaria and, recently, Denmark. I : was amazed at the splendid Danish : collection. : : Antique jewelry in Fred Leighton's windows : has made me aware of the beauty of various : stones and settings. And of course Leslie : Field's book is a bible of British royal : jewels. I now also own Munn. : : This Board has whetted my interest in the : jewels, and enlightened me immeasurably. It : is a real treasure, and equally so is : contact with jewel connoisseurs all over the : world. I do enjoy our discussions! : : Thank you, Shrubbery, for providing this : excellent source of knowledge and : enchantment. : : Edit: I grew up in the southern part of the : United States, and now live in the US : Midwest. : :
