In 1966 most papers wrote about the tiara as the tiara that was also worn by Wilhelmina on her weddingday which ofcourse (as we know now) not the case. I always found it strange that if the Tiara realy would have been a present from the Würtemberger king for his daughter Sophie, when she married into the Dutch Royal family, that Sophie was never portrayed with it....
If thát story was true, she would certainly have had herself painted with it in those days (with all her fond memories of Würtemberg and her daddy). The design is also very turn-of-the-century. That it seems to be Dutch (according to Els Smit) is totaly new info and not as Henri suggested "something already known".
--Previous Message-- : At the time of the wedding ( 1966) there : surely must have been some journalist who : wanted to know more about this tiara ... : If new information now suddenly 'pops up' : one might also start wondering why no extra : info was released on previous occasions : (wedding 1966/State Visits) especially since : this tiara played such a prominent role. : : Van Kempen & Begeer sadly had to change : their royal (expert) status over the past : years, so opening their archives and cashing : in on their knowledge about various royal : treasures would seem a logical step..... : : :
