Thank you for your speedy response Nellie! I read the same entry in Mr. Roberts' book. I too find it interesting regarding Garrard's "supplying" pearls and diamonds. I wonder if perhaps some of the original stones were harvested to use elsewhere and replaced with the stones mentioned. I have tried imagining the Duchess of Cambridge wearing the necklace, and just can't see it. However, I do think that the Duchess of Cornwall could pull it off. I wonder just how many of these gorgeous treasures will fade away into the vaults with the passage of time. So many pieces have already disappeared with the changing fashions. That's why I never tire of seeing them and reading about their history. --Previous Message-- : : I turned to The Queen's Diamonds by Hugh : Roberts. : : "It was bequeathed by Queen Alexandra : as an heirloom of the Crown, 'on condition : that no part of it shall ever be altered', : passing in succession to Queen Mary, Queen : Elizabeth (for whom it was thoroughly : overhauled in 1937) and The Queen, in : 1952." : : A footnote says re 1937 from Garrard : "Supplying button pearl, 107 rose : diamonds & 3 diamonds to The Dagmar : Cross & Necklace and cleaning" : Makes one wonder just what that was all : about. : : Roberts makes no mention of the piece being : worn by either Queen Mary or Queen Elizabeth : (QM) so I take that to mean that it is not : known. : : I have a vague idea that Queen Mary might : have used some of the pearl drops but that : is more or less guesswork. : : --Previous Message-- : I'm trying to pin down more information on : this amazing piece of jewelry.
