I totally agree with you. Even Queen Alexandra herself had her gift altered to be able to remove parts. So a temporary removal of part seems quite OK to me, so long as the parts are not permanently parted and the entire piece can be put back together --Previous Message-- : I have always hated the way the swags look in : the left hand picture when the pearl drops : are removed and the Dagmar Cross is : detached. I know that Queen Alexandra : bequeathed the piece on the condition that : no changes be made. Then the piece would : lie smoothly along the collar bones of the : wearer. That might violate the technical : interpretation of Queen Alexandra's bequest, : but not the spirit and render the piece much : more wearable. :
