I am convinced John R is right. The Dutch Royal Family has been haunted about their assumed wealth for many years. Queen Juliana had fears that one of her grandchildren could be kidnapped because of the persistent rumour that she was the richest woman in the world. Time and again there are these discussions about the costs of the monarchy. However, one could easily make clear that the jewels are no private property anymore and that only their cultural-historic and artistic values are important. I am very fond of Queen Margarethe's statement in the Royal Jewels documentary: "We do not count the carats, we count the centuries". The Dutch RF could take the British one as an example which also sometimes is criticized about financial matters and still has a policy of publications about the Royal Collection. I agree that nowadays much can be found on the internet, but some archives are just not open to the public. As for the Dutch royal jewels, I am hopeful for the future, though! --Previous Message-- : : I feel that the internet has provided : never-before-possible opportunities for the : genuine admiration of grand jewels for their : own sakes. : We also admire the jewels as appropriate : trappings of majesty. : Personal or family wealth is not the only : interest, or even the primary one. : : : --Previous Message-- : Well with the arrival of internet and all : these open sources most is known now anyway : so there's no hiding anylonger.
