I don't know how old the Opal Brooch is. The setting reminds me of the Turkoise pendant earrings of Queen Beatrix. The Opal Flower brooch might have been a present given to Queen Juliana by the Sjah on the ocassion of the 25th wedding anniversary party. She wore it for the first time during her State Visit to Persia the following year. It only resurfaced again after Queen Juliana passed away so might have been her personal property. --Previous Message-- : Right! Thank you all. I was thinking of the : milky type of opals, but of course there are : these nice pieces of fire opals which are : often seen. : Unfortunately, it is not clear what type of : opals Willem III inherited from his mother. : So it is difficult to say whether the stones : are historic pieces or later acquisitions. : The milky opals seem to be more rare in the : collection, and the butterfly brooch looks : older than the fire opal pieces. : : : --Previous Message-- : Yes indeed they are. We saw that when Queen : B : adorned herself with that brooch in : Singapore. : : --Previous Message-- : definitely opals : : : : : : : : :
