Most likely this was a gift to the Queen, perhaps she had no choice as to what precious stones would be set in the earrings. Well, and no looking at a gift horse in the mouth right?
She has the older and more classic ruby sets (very beautiful and grand both of them) for more formal ocasions and now a modern and versatile piece for more casual events. I am eager to see the combinations she will pull out in the future. Lovely!
--Previous Message-- : It is somewhat a strange addition as the Queen : has two complete diamond-and-rubies parures : at her disposal (the 1889 Parure by Mellerio : dits Meller, Paris and the 1897 'Peacock' : Parure by Schürmann & Co, Frankfurt) : plus some other diamond-and-rubies items. : : One would say the the Queen is already : showered with diamonds and rubies. My choice : for new additions would have been other : colours like amethysts, fire opals or the : pink stones the Queen favours (kunzite?), to : add more versatility to the collection. : : :
