It's an interesting subject. I vividly remember HM wearing a distinct Arab necklace with matching earrings. What is the likelyhood that she bought that set herself? So far she wore it only once in public. Of course they will accept private gifts. Why not? It's considered very rude to reject a gift. The distinction between state and private gifts might be a technical issue. If it's officially presented on the ocassion of a State / Official Visit it's a clear cut case. But personally I don't see why she could not accept a gift from friends presented in private for a birthday or for a special occassion. All these new pieces we have seen in the last ten years. All bought by HM Beatrix and Maxima themselves? Or in Máxima's case given to her by her husband? That would be worrying, actually. --Previous Message-- : I am not sure Queen Máxima / Princess Máxima : accepts jewelry gifts from Arab rulers or : others because such gifts are placed in the : Foundation Official Gifts of the House : Orange-Nassau 2007, for gifts to (spouses : of) descendants of Queen Wilhelmina, while : it -logically- is better placed in the : Foundation Crown Properties of the House : Orange-Nassau 1968. A gift by an Arab ruler : in the framework of an official visit means : that the item can never become 'private'. : Unless it was given in a situation not : "in the exercise of the royal : function". : : There is a tendence to attribute each new : jewel of the Queen to Arab rulers, but most : likely it simply are additions purchased by : the Oranges themselves. : : :
