Queen Maria Pia coral tiara Archived Message

When I visited the portuguese royal jewels exibition I was mesmerized by all the glittering jewels and gems, but I also notest a coral tiara. This was the first coral tiara I've seen. I remember well how the frame was covered in a very old and faded brown velvet. I was a student back then so I couldn't purchase the catalogue, so I never saw anything related to that tiara again. Many years later I tried to find a pic of that coral tiara but only recently I succeed. Here's the only (small) pic I could find. Queen Maria Pia had it made in Génova. --Previous Message-- : The emerald corsage brooch (laça de peito) is : huge and absolutely fabulous. The emeralds : are said to be of the highest quality, and : they have the most beutiful deep green. I : remember stearing at it for quite some time : (the same with the huge saphires). : As it is known Queen Maria Pia had most of : the ancient jewels dismantled and reset at : her taste. The original emerald corsage : brooch belonged to one of the sisters of : Queen Dona Maria I, Infanta Dona Maria : Francisca. In the Ajuda Palace there is a : portrait of Dona Maria Pia wearing her : version of the emeralds, a small tiara, : necklace, earrings and most likely a : bracelet (see pic below). : : : : : : : : In the 1950's a jeweler was asked to reset : the emeralds to the original design they had : in the XVIII century, and he inspired his : work on a portrait of the Infanta wearing : the big emerald corsage and tried to make : the jewel as similar as possible. So, again : the emeralds regain the original design : (pity they look so "unclean" in : this pic, but we can see the beautiful : colour and nearly no imperfections). : : : Again from the collection at Palácio da : Ajuda, a Diamond and rubi corsage brooch : belonging to Queen Dona Mariana Vitória : (1718-1781), the wife of King Dom José I : (and mother of Dona Maria I and Infanta Dona : Maria Francisca). : : : : : : : : --Previous Message-- : : Aquamarine : : : Diamonds : 135 and 35 carats (the biggest was stolen) : : : : : : : : : : : :
