Arthur - you are quite right about the misleading information attached to that image. The empty frame of the Regal Circlet had been in the Museum of London and has featured here on the RJWMB quite a number of times. I will rerun what I have about it. In the tray at the Museum of London Note that the elements used in the wedding tiara of the Countess of Wessex fit four (ed) of the shapes in the empty tray. See the Garrard page below. From Jewellery 1789-1910 by Shirley Bury " In 1853, Queen Adelaide's Grand or Regal circlet was reconstructed by Garrard's, its crest of alternating crosses and fleurs-de-lis made detachable to allow for the insertion of the anthemion brooch and smaller matching devices (Plate 173) " [which is the fitted case we have dealt with above]. From Munn, page 98 -- " There were also four Greek anthemion ornaments, one of which was designed to accommodate the Koh-i-Noor in a frame of small brilliant-cut stones, which was detachable. " The 1853 ledger page is repeated here for convenience. (If only we had the 1858-9, 1902 and 1937 pages.) --Previous Message-- : Thanks to all of you, and especially to : Nellie, for this wonderful work! : : Here is a link to the Royal Collection's : webpage dedicated to Queen Victoria's Regal : Circlet: : : http://www.royalcollection.org.uk/collection/75003/grand-or-regal-circlet : (you can get an HQ picture by clicking on : the button "Download this : picture") : : The comments given by the Royal Collection : indicate that this Circlet was made for : Queen Victoria in 1858. But these comments : do not seem very reliable (for instance, : they describe the top elements of the : circlet as " alternate Prince of Wales : feathers and George Crosses ", whereas : we can all see that they are fleur-de-lys : and Maltese crosses... ). So, on this : point, I would say that I trust (the : much-missed) Boffer (who wrote that this : Circlet was created in 1852 with stones : dismantled from Queen Adelaide's Circlet, : and remodelled in 1858 after the end of the : Hanoverian claim) better than the Royal : Collection! : :
