There's at least one purple robe where the queen's initial or cypher was embroidered separately and then the piece attached.
yes, it includes her crowned cypher. To dismantle all that exquisite needlework seems like spoiling a precious piece of artwork, however I understand the economy of the times. Perhaps Camilla could simply wear the princess robe that Mary wore to the Delhi Durbar and the 1937 coronation, they could just add a cypher to it.
If the Queen wears an recycled robe and train she will have to use either the one used by Queen Elizabeth the Queenmother in 1953 or the one by Queen Mary in 19378. The one used by Queen Elizabeth at the 1937 coronation had her monogramm on it. Not sure if also the one Queen Mary used in 1911
Johan - I'm guessing and could easily be wrong. I'm guessing they will both go for "recycling" (for their robes that require trainbearers) thinking of sustainability and difficult times econonmically to avoid expenses that could be criticised heavily.
On arrival I expect to see the KIng wearing a "recycled" crimson parliamentary robe which he would use for the rest of his reign.
Some months back an idea was floated that he might wear the uniform of an Admiral instead of the traditional breeches. We have to wait to see. I go into some detail at this link .
If they keep to tradition the Queen will arrive bareheaded and wearing her purple robe, "recycled" as I have suggested. A Queen Consort wears her purple robe throughout the event and does not have any changes of attire.
After the Recess both appear for the Procession in their purple and the King in his full uniform.
