According to Field, the Queen Mother's brooch was a birthday gift from King George VI. And QEQM wore this brooch from the late 1930s/early 1940s on, so long before Princess Marina's death (on the picture posted by Nellie, Princess Marina is wearing her pair of brooches in May 1946). It is possible that Cartier (by whom both King George VI and his brother the Duke of Kent were clients) had several exemplars of these brooches made, and that both royal brothers chose (deliberately or not) the same jewel for their respective wives. --Previous Message-- : I wonder if Princess Marina might not have : left the brooch (or both) to the Queen : Mother? : I doubt that they would have both had the : same brooch at the same time. :
