From what I see, read and hear, the Investiture 2013 will be grander than ever before. Not in terms of royal glitter but the scale of the festivities, the public participation, the media attention and the interactivity with the citizens. At the same time all grand historic venues will be used, we s will see -sober- trappings of state ánd we will see the new 21st C Amsterdam by going out of the historic and wellknown touristic center and aim on new architectural urban developments where the evening program will take place. From what we have seen on the weddings, funerals, the Silver Jubilee, the Prince's 40th birthday, the opening of the Hermitage, the Amstel river concerts, the Parade of Sail, I have all confidence that it will become a festive and colourful day. Celebrating in a modern venue can be combined with tradition, and the Princess has worn wonderful new jewelry on different black tie events at home and abroad. I think that the King and Queen will find a balance between modernity and tradition. In the UK we saw the same with William and Catherine. To name an example: royal guests like the Yorks were transported in mini-buses from a taxbus company. That was unthinkable 3 decades ago. This sets the plan of the Court in perspective to use the black royal bus in the evening to head for the IJ-river. At other events guests were transported in black VIP-busses from the firm Beuk, so it will not be cheap-looking.Have confidence and I expect a State Visit to the UK with the grandest jewels as the current Dutch PM is an anglophile and wants to keep the UK aboard the EU as counterweight to Berlin/Paris. He will do everything to convince Britain that their commitment is valued and appreciated. Mark my words. The new King had his secondary education in Wales. His mother probably had a British passport. The new Queen had her secobdary education on a British college in Buenos Aires. When the PM suggests the King to visit the UK, I am sure the King will be pleased and then we will see one of the grandest royal events in years, with also the Duchess of Cambridge in diadem a d receiving an Order like Diana once. --Previous Message-- : Im not suggesting the monarch cannot adapt to : modern times. I am however convinced that : acting in a presidential style is the kiss : of death for monarchs. For these special : occasions they have to show the glamour that : belongs to the unique institution the : monarchy is. Like the wedding of : crownprincess Victoria of Sweden and prince : Daniel. That was very regal in dresscode and : various traditions, but also very open and : close to the population. The Danish court is : another prime example of using Regality : while also ajusting to the times as well as : being true to oneself. : The Belgian monarchy got rid of whatever : royal glamour they had and they have been : constantly getting bad press because they : live privileged lives. : : --Previous Message-- : If the royal house had you as advisor we : already would be a republic by now. The : monarchy can only survive when adapt to : modern views and integrating some (but not : all) traditions. : : : --Previous Message-- : Henri we do not all take breakfast that : late. : Besides in your favorite past (when ladies : wore their hair up and did not involve : themselves with things like jobs) dinner was : served at noon and ladies wore their jewels. : Scandinavian marriages are often in the : afternoon and are white tie events and the : men and women look amazing there. : The new king will wear white tie for his : investiture so it is not that strange to : expect the Royal ladies attending to wear : the female equivalent of white tie and that : includes tiara's and jewels. : : Do i expect them to wear it? No! : But it is one thing that i allready hold : against our soon to be monarch. If he : carries on behaving that way in his reign, i : hope it will be short and the last reign of : a monarch in the Netherlands. : : --Previous Message-- : I don't think it is crashing bore. For me : the : idea that just after breakfast you have to : hose yourself into a gown and wear Jewels : for an event around Noon is weird. : : Jewels are made to unfold their splendour in : candlelight. No matter the faceting, size : and clarity, even the purest diamond has no : chance to break, refract and reflect light : properly in broad daylight. The State : Opening of Parliament in the UK is a : wonderful event, at the same time it is also : very weird that the Lords and Ladies are in : their robes, that here and there you can : spot Peeresses or aristocrat ladies in : Jewels but the rest is in fairly common : daily suit, not even in jaquet (morning : coat). : : I can live with the way it is done in 1948, : 198O and will happen in 2013. Let us not : exaggerate: all other Investiture Ceremonies : (Denmark, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, : Norway, Monaco) were pretty sober as well. : Even the Vatican or in Japan you will not : see the glanz und gloria of diamonds in : broad daylight. : : : : : :
