It was maybe three or four years ago that I noticed "the nation" added to the circumstances of the Royal Collection.
I feel that the added words possibly reflect the present day thinking of the royal family.
See further up where I have described "the State". Possibly the State and the nation can be the same thing.
By the way, I do think this discussion is relevant to "royal jewels". It does help to clarify the scope each royal lady might or might not have to alter and adapt jewels to her own fancy.
