One could argue that the tiara was already bought and would be there again when a new female speaker one day will be appointed - buying and selling a tiara every time a female speaker is appointed does not make sense. Spouses also get to drive with their husband/wife in the chauffeur driven car (they do not have to arrive in taxi). And they also get to live in the apartment/house put at their husband/wife's disposal when they are in office. So why not let a female spouse of a male speaker wear the tiara - if one is 'in stock'
