His Columbia SO (CoSO) Seventh has the best sound of all his Bruckner recordings (studio or live) - an important advantage. It's a fine, arguably great, performance despite the absence of the famous cymbal clash.
Sony's recently issued Bruno Walter Complete Columbia Album edition includes a live performance of this work which gets through it in about 8-9 minutes less than the CoSO performance! Despite this, I don't find the latter in any way diffuse or dragging.
Regards.
Rob.
