Re: Bruckner's 8th Symphony CD Review
I remember acquiring that Columbia B7 when it was first issued on CD, coupled with the Siegfried Idyll. For some reason I didn't keep it, but by chance listened to it again only last year. What wonderful wise and considered performance it is - and why didn't I keep it, was my question. And then the performance arrived at the climax of the Adagio and I remembered - I do tend to like my Bruckner Sevens of the full-fat variety, with cymbals, triangle and timpani in the Adagio. I miss it too much in the otherwise very good Kurt Sanderling recording as well with the Stuttgart RSO on Hannsler. Maybe I'm just fussy ! Best lee
