I've always liked Blomstedt's work: for example, his EMI Nielsen is so much more echt than Rattle's. In the 1980's I bought his Dresden Bruckner 4 and 7 on Denon and still regard them very highly. Ditto his San Fran. Bruckner, including a gorgeous 6. I have 7,8 and 9 from his Leipzig Bruckner cycle but there's a kind of bogged down inertia in the first movement of the 8th which I find fussy and irritating. It seems on a road to nowhere...The next three movements take flight and he certainly comes home in a thundering gallop. So, the proverbial curate...
With regard to the Kubelik, I have the 1977 live recording, can listen to the earlier performance on Spotify. Marvellous invention, Spotify...
I will report.
Regards
Dieter
