These are from my notes of 2009: The sash is probably the British Empire. The bow for the Crown of India was light blue with white edges but I doubt it had a sash. According to Royal Orders by Hugo Vickers, and My Memories of Six Reigns by Her HIghness Princess Marie Louise, she was - VA - Lady of the order of Victoria and Albert CI - Imperial Order of the Crown of India (in 1893) GCVO - Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (in 1953) GBE - Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire (in 1919) RRC - The Royal Red Cross British Orders and Decorations by Peter Duckers says, for the British Empire - "The Sash, a broad 96mm (3.7 inch) wide ribbon of the Order, passes over the right shoulder and carries the Badge of the Order over the left hip." The 1917 ribbon was purple but changed in 1936 to pink with narrow edge stripes of pearl grey.
--Previous Message-- : That is a very significant point Brian. : : Nevertheless, I suspect that even for an : evening court she would have worn an order, : if she had one at that time. Or am I : mistaken? : : I noticed that for the coronations of George : VI and Elizabeth II she was wearing a sash : and several orders pinned to her gown, but I : have no knowledge of what these are or when : she might have been given them. : : Nellie, do you have any insights? : : --Previous Message-- : I've also wondered at the attribution that : the : photograph was taken at the time of Edward : VII's coronation, mainly because the : princess wears no orders. I think it might : be possible that Princess Marie Louise was : photographed for one of the new evening : Courts that her uncle instituted when he : came to the throne. : : :
