So many of the great pieces in the Queen's private collection were of course bequests from Queen Mary, whose death unfortunately closely coincided with the coronation.
It was only a few months after her grandmother's passing that the Queen began to wear her lovely tiaras.
Here the Queen wears the Vladimir tiara at the Royal Film Performance in October 1953. (This is also the only time I recall seeing the pearl version being worn with a necklace of colored stones.)
For the long Commonwealth tour which began the following month, two more of Queen Mary's tiaras were worn - the lover's knot and the kokoshnik.
