The Queen had the wedding gifts from Queen Mary - the beautiful Girls of Great Britain tiara - and I can only think that Queen Mary, if she had lived longer, might have lent the other tiaras to the Queen for the Commonwealth Tour. But we will never know. --Previous Message-- : Let's say Queen Mary had lived for another : couple of years, what would have the Queen : been wearing during these years? : QEQM wore the ruby parure and the fringe : tiara, so the Queen's choice wouldn't have : been that great. : : --Previous Message-- : : So many of the great pieces in the Queen's : private collection were of course bequests : from Queen Mary, whose death unfortunately : closely coincided with the coronation. : : It was only a few months after her : grandmother's passing that the Queen began : to wear her lovely tiaras. : : Here the Queen wears the Vladimir tiara at : the Royal Film Performance in October 1953. : (This is also the only time I recall seeing : the pearl version being worn with a necklace : of colored stones.) : : : : For the long Commonwealth tour which began : the following month, two more of Queen : Mary's tiaras were worn - the lover's knot : and the kokoshnik.
