I might be in the minority, but I think I prefer the 'Girls' tiara without the base. It nests quite nicely in the coiffure. --Previous Message-- : I love the earrings. Are they part of the : Nizam of Hyderabad tiara? I think they would : suit the DoCa very well . : : --Previous Message-- : : It was the interview with Rolf Harris. : I have always believed that a bandeau : displayed with the wedding gifts was the : base to the tiara. : Perhaps it was not. : Even if so the base could have been stashed : away in a box. : : : : --Previous Message-- : Nellie - if my memory is correct she : discussed : this with Rolf Harris during a portrait : setting. When Queen Mary gave her the Tiara : she didn't give her the base and the base : was found in a box after Queen Mary passed : away. : : Someone did post the link - which I think : was from youtube. Is supect that the Queen : was slightly amused by the story! : : It may not have been an oversight on Queen : Mary's behalf. She may have thought that : the tiara without the base would look better : on her grandaughter than with the base. : Given her love of jewellery she would have : given considerable thought to what she gave : her grandaughter. : : : : :
