That's funny, Cristina - exactly the same with me, I was looking at the Nobel 76 photos for years before realizing that these were entirely different earrings, not just a pair of the familiar ones seen at an odd angle. Speaking of odd, this is the only time on record when Queen Silvia has worn the Brazilian earrings; I believe that someone found a pic of CP Victoria wearing them also once, but I don't remember the occasion. Perhaps someone else does? That makes two times in 36 years since the King's wedding that they were worn in public - pretty amazing. Perhaps they hurt. Belonging to the jewels which Empress Amélie left her sister Queen Josefina as well, but not to the parure: The two rather enormous pear-shaped diamonds which remained loose in the vaults until Queen Silvia had them set as earrings in 1979.
--Previous Message-- : Thank you Boris. So these are the Brazilian : earrings! I have this picture for years and : never notest those earrings . : : I checked my files and this seems to be the : only ocasion I've seen them being worn. I : don't know if there are better pictures of : the brazilian earrings, but they seem mostly : like a simple line of (splendid) diamonds : just hanging from the ear. I must say I was : expecting a more elaborate design for these : earrings... : : So, the Brazilian set consisted of the : fabulous diamond floral tiara, the rose : brooch, these earrings and most likely a : riviére... : : : : : : : --Previous Message-- : Taking into account that the rarely worn : earrings of the Brazilian parure are : surprisingly simple as well (see below), it : might be wrong indeed to expect the necklace : to be very ornate; as you said, one of the : rivières remains the most likely solution : here. : : : : : --Previous Message-- : : : --Previous Message-- : Maybe the matching necklace left the main : line : at some point and was subsequently auctioned : off? I doubt that it is one of the rivières : as they are not "matching" in : design. (Though I love rivières as they are : so versatile.) : : : : : ===================================================== : : In the post linked to above, Mr. Isaksen : says that according to Göran Alm the parure : was left to the royal jewellery foundation. : I think it would be highly unlikely that : Queen Silvia would have a grand diamond : necklace at her disposal and not have worn : it after all these years, so the necklace : must be the one shown in the photo provided : by Boris. : : A large ornate necklace might be too much : with that huge tiara. I really like the : look of a diamond rivière or two (or seven : ) on a lady. : : : : :
