Queen Sophie's jewels were divided between her two sons. Indeed it is said that Wiwill sold most of his share and that Alexander sold some of those pieces back. I don't recall reading of any tiara being broken up to divide between the two sons. There was plenty. We simply do not know what happened exactly to this particular tiara - some claim the frame was used to create the pearl button tiara but I still have my doubts as the motif of the base and the spacing of the prongs does not match - but there has always been a leaf brooch with pearl and pendant. Several pictures of Queen Sophie with the said Strawberry Leaf Brooch on my website will confirm that claim. --Previous Message-- : I don't remember the source but I have read : that after Queen Sophie's death the : collection was broken up and partly gone, : for an example because the Prince of Orange : (Willem) had financial problems and partly : broke up the diadem as shown below for cash. : Prince Alexander, the younger brother of : Prince Willem, managed to save a part of his : mother's jewelry collection out of the hands : of Prince Willem. : : Another version was that the diadem was : broken up and various leafs went to the : siblings Prince Willem, Prince Alexander and : to their aunt Princess Sophie (sister of : King Willem III). : : If these theories are nonsense, I stand : corrected. : :
