--Previous Message-- : The Order of Christ Portugal is orange sash : etc.
The Order of Christ has a red sash and The Queen never received this Order.
The Portuguese decorations given to HM were:
. the Sash of the Three Orders in 1955 (a combination of the Order of Christ, the Order of Aviz and the Order of Santiago conferred as a single award - this is no longer given to foreign Heads of State, only the President in exercise can wear it);
. the Order of St. James of the Sword in 1978 (the one the Queen also wore in 1985 as we could see with the Kent amethyst demi-parure);
. the Order of the Tower and the Sword in 1993 (which has a blue sash).
: --Previous Message-- : The reason for wearing the amethysts was : that : Portugal changed the colour of its sash, so : The Queen went to mauve not to clash with : the new colour sash. I am not sure but the : old colour sash was orange. : : --Previous Message-- : Barbara its the full version of the big : amethyst brooch, with the 3 amethyst hanging : pendants. : : Here is another pic from this ocasion, the : state visit to Portugal in March 1985, the : only time, to my knowledge, that HM wore the : main pieces of this set together. : : : : It was considered very appropriate that HM : decided to wear the oldest set of her jewels : to the state banquet of her visit to : Portugal, Britan's oldest allied (aliance : since the XIV century). : : : : : --Previous Message-- : : : --Previous Message-- : : It looks to me like one of them. I think : there is more than one. : : : Nellie, do you happen to have a picture from : the other brooche(s)? Are they similar in : shape and size (like the Q Victoria Bows) or : are they entirely different? : : I know, there's this picture of HM where she : wears something below the 'main-brooch'. But : I'm not sure wether it's a pendant or : another amethyst pinned on HM's sash... : : : : : : : : :
