It was the Regal Circlet (as we know the item named these days). Queen Victoria has used "diadem" often in her Journals. I have often wondered if her daughter altered any terminology of that sort, and today we have no way of knowing. Here's another extract from my notes, re diadem. ----------------- 26 May 2012 "Queen Victoria’s Koh-i-noor diadem" I note the text for RCIN 2808304 - which is a photo of Queen Mary for the Opening of Parliament 6 February 1911 - states that Queen Mary is wearing Queen Victoria’s Koh-i-noor diadem. I would say - yes and no. I have always believed Queen Mary wore Queen Victoria’s Regal Circlet on that occasion - but not with the alternate elements for mounting the Koh-i-noor - see start of this thread. But it would seem that the RCIN 2808304 description acknowledges the diadem is connected to the Koh-i-noor.
