More tiaras - maybe not Archived Message

Having read all of this thread I too am hopeful that we may see more tiaras emerging from the vaults. However, perhaps for those of you who are not in the UK, I wanted to give a bit of local perspective. Ever since the 1990s there was a lot of pressure on the British Royal family and their wealth. then the fire at Windsor which led to a huge bill to repair it was the last straw. Since that time there has been a low key, but steady pressure on the Royal family over their wealth, and assets and the level to which they are supported (paid for) by the British tax payers. For example there were several scandals over gifts and especially those of jewels from Middle Eastern royals. So much so that now there are annual reports published where all gifts have to be listed. So against that background I have noticed that the Royal family are keeping the 'jewel events' down to a minimum (pretty much state banquets only). And now we are still in the midst of a deep recession. So all I'm trying to say is - don't get your hopes up too high, now is not a great time for the Royals to go splashing jewels around. (these are just general views of what I have observed in this country over the years. I personally think the royals are great value for the country given all the tourists, income and good standing that they bring us as a world nation) --Previous Message-- : : I’ll post this story in two parts - without : the pics I wanted to add. : : First, I’d be grateful if anyone can post : the relevant segments from - : my comparison pic - : http://members2.boardhost.com/royal-jewels/msg/1350737648.html : and Brock’s alternate views - : http://members2.boardhost.com/royal-jewels/msg/1350777939.html : : Those images date from a visit to Canada in : July 1970, with Princess Anne. : : I’m not entirely convinced that the gems in : Sophie’s are precisely the same sizes and : shapes as in the Queen’s. : Sophie's might be the carcase (?) of the : V-shaped head ornament in my next posting, : with new gems inserted. : Or it might not be. : : Visits to Commonwealth countries - : http://www.royal.gov.uk/MonarchUK/RoyalVisits/Commonwealthvisitssince1952.aspx : : July 1970 pic Anne & Queen : : :
