Improvements and developments to the searching and browsing ability for the Royal Collection website are announced in this section I have not noticed before as they say:
"The database is updated regularly with new and improved images and text. Other improvements under development include:
a bespoke Collection search, related multi-media, image downloads, a 'Royal Collection Near You' map, and a mechnaism for visitors to post comments."
I must say, the format and layout of the website makes it much more similar to those of other artistic and heritage collections like the V&A or the National Gallery in terms of their layout and searching facilities, which could perhaps be the impetus for change, an industry wide standard for heritage website.
Let's just hope it brings us more information than before, and brings more objects to our attention.
Although I must say, I don't know if the ability to post comments will be constructive, as many people will post needless and perhaps incorrect information which could go some way in spreading incorrect stories and facts. Best to keep all the information on the site purely scholarly and official.
