Quoting from The Crown Jewels, The History of the Coronation Regalia in the Jewel House of the Tower of London, in two volumes, General Editor: Claude Blair, with 8 authors providing various sections, published London: The Stationery Office Limited 1998 - vol II, page 133 in The Regalia Catalogue written by Shirley Bury with contributions on all the gemstones by Alan Jobbins, Roger Harding and Kenneth Scarrett - The delicate silver wires and strips comprising the structure of the Crown are laminated wih gold and braced by a later inner gold frame, added in 1914 when the arches were made detachable. Hinged to the band, it rises behind the crossses party and fleurs-de-lis to the arches, terminating in the monde. Pages 133 to 141 deal with Queen Mary's Crown. I do believe that the 1998 work is still the definitive reference. Boffer, quite seriously you really should track down a set to see what I mean. Vol 1 is 811 pages and Vol II is 629 - a massive work by many contributors.
