--Previous Message-- : Apparently, the necklace has nothing to do : with Queen Mary and her amethysts - : It's certainly Queen Alexandra's wedding : gift to Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. : The description from Field couldn't fit more : perfectly. Admittedly I've never seen a picture of Queen Alexandra's wedding gift to the Queen Mother, and I'm far from being an expert in identifying particular pieces from royal collections, but does the description from Field really match the necklace worn by Camilla? If the chain is indeed woven with seed pearls one could as well argue five rows, the amethysts are neither large nor surrounded by brilliant-cut diamonds, I don't think there's space enough for additional four stones to make them eight and the heart-shaped amethyst pendant is not hanging from the front largest cluster. The pendant is much too sloppily attached anyway, twisting the chain. OK, I'd better admit: I don't like the necklace at all! Edit: Boris, now that I've seen the close-up you've posted, I would call it a three row necklace, despite the interspersed pearls. And it looks better than I thought before - now the way the pendant is attached disturbs me even more...
