Although this is a similar concept to the amethyst necklace that was gifted to the Queen Mother from Queen Alexandra in 1923, I actually believe that this is a separate piece. My main reasoning behind this is the large heart-shaped amethyst itself, which in the Queen Mother's gift was smaller and cabochon; whereas that worn by the Duchess of Cornwall was significantly larger and faceted. What's more, it is argued by Field that the wedding-gift to the Queen Mother was re-set and gifted to the Queen. This necklace does not match the description of the reset necklace. As such I believe that this is a wholly separate piece that may be a new acquisition. The picture of the 1923 gift appears in The Times Wedding-Gift issue, along with pictures of the other main jewellery gifts, and also appeared in the Illustrated London News, although sadly I don't have access to these pictures right now, but they clearly show a smaller and cabochon amethyst. --Previous Message-- : Tonight for the new James Bond's Royal : Premiere. : : : : : : :
