Thank you for the exchanges.
I feel I have pretty much exhausted all the possibilities. An eyelet would account for the squeezed bit of chain.
The eyelet might be a "click open, click shut" variety? I know what I mean but have no idea what it is called. Or else the chain now has a clasp at the back of the neck.
--Previous Message-- : --Previous Message-- : : After the sliding idea, which makes a lot of : practical sense for the original, I now : think Camilla's is a shorter shorter loop : (!!) slipped through a small vertical eyelet : often used on the top of a pendant, at the : back of course. : : Tamara's side view of it leads me to this : idea. : : I wondered why the necklace doesn't : "sit" better around the neck. : These flat woven or in this case mounted : pearl chains usually keep lying flat. The : amethysts are rather high, so that's : probably why the chain seems somewhat : twisted between the stones. I'm not sure if : the "squeezed" bit of the chain : close to the right side of the heart shaped : amethyst is due to this twisted chain or to : an eyelet behind the jewel. In any case it : would be a rather peculiar way of attaching : the pendant, which would not be removable : anyway because of the size of the amethysts : in the chain... : : But I do agree that what the Duchess has : worn is a bit shorter than what appears as : shorter loop in the picture of the wedding : gift. : :
