--Previous Message-- : Also possible. But I think it's more likely : that there are two loops at different : lengths and that the longer one can be : attached to the top left and right of the : heart in the place of the shorter one to : form a long sautoir necklace.
But if the top left and right of the heart would indeed provide a possibility to attach a longer or shorter loop -- wouldn't the DoC have worn it that way, i.e. with a properly attached centre piece?
I assume the heart shaped jewel has a pin similar to a brooch, works fine to adjust a long necklace, but needs a makeshift job to be attached as a pendant to a flat chain.
Edit:
I should have had another look at the close-ups! I didn't like the necklace as worn by the DoC, mainly because the heart shaped jewel seemed to sit not properly, but on a second (well, fifth or so) look the connection with the chain is far too high up for the pin I had in mind.
Would be nice to see if there's anything at the bottom sides of the heart to attach the second loop, otherwise it possibly was later changed in order to wear it as a centre piece of a necklace.
Anyway, the way it appeared this week is a strong indication for your suggestion!
