Not sure where the original drawing is but the copy of Oscar Masin's design from 1867 which is shown here comes from a book called La bijouterie francaise au XIXe siecle by Henri Vever. Vita Israel (Amsterdam) supplied some more jewels for the Dutch Court, more specifically a set of very expensive diamond jewels for wee Princess Wilhelmina in 1889. There was not one Court Jeweller in the Netherlands in the 19th century or even after I think. There were several suppliers during that period, both in the Netherlands and abroad. That makes it a bit confusing and difficult. Some jewellers received large and repeated commissons like Mellerio, Van Kempen Begeer & Vos and the lesser known Schuermann from Frankfurt, others received 'smaller' orders. It is still unknown which jeweller made/designed the other pieces that we now consider part of the Sapphire Parure: necklace (which is now mounted on a tiara frame) and stomacher / bow brooch. --Previous Message-- : : Thank you so much Erik for the time and care : you have put in to writing this account. I : appreciate your work very much. : But I do need to clarify some points. : : Do you rule out Massin as both 1881 designer : and 1881 maker? : : The following timeline helps me to organise : my thinking on this case. : : 1867 early design by Massin - in which : archive today? : 1881 design (name changed to Vita Israels ?) : held in Van Kempen & Vos archives today : VK&V were court jewellers in 1881 ? or 1928 : ? : 1881 tiara and bracelets delivered to Dutch : court, by ? : “the company made more jewels for the Dutch : royal court” meaning Massin? : 1928 VK&V were commissioned to alter the : tiara (source: Royal archives ?) possibly : altering gold frame to platinum : If Royal archives, do the VK&V archives also : include evidence? : 2013 alteration to frame and centre-top : element : : : : --Previous Message-- : Dear fellow posters, : : I made a summary of the documentation in : Rene Brus' book regarding the Dutch sapphire : tiara on my website.
