Is the link between Massin and Mellerio only evident in the Netherlands? Surely not. He must have designed many more Jewels for Mellerio not just for the Dutch Court.
Anyway I found it very interesting to read that the Ruby Parure was also designed by Massin.
Considering that the original design for the Ruby Parure was with Sapphires but that Sapphires were already used in 1881 for the tiara based on Massin's original tiara design from 1867! So the Dutch King decided on Rubies for this Massin/Mellerio Parure...
--Previous Message-- : Several factors are playing a role: : - In Holland the name of Massin is attached : to Mellerio. This basically has to do with a : lack of information regarding Massin and his : work. He worked for several jewellery houses : and this week I bumped into a reference : where it said Cartier and Massin were big : competitors back then. : - At some point people assumed the sapphire : jewels were all Mellerio. This has to do : with the outrageous secrecy so far of the : Dutch Royal Family with regard to their : jewels: it's hard to get good information. : - We like to call the jewels Mellerio, : because it is a prestigous house. : - Dutch experts kept calling it Mellerio, : despite the availability of Brus' book (this : baffles me. I checked this week: I've never : written Mellerio with regard to these : jewels) :
